Once Upon a Time
Mónica de Miranda (Portugal)
With Once Upon a Time - the first part of the homonymous exhibition's cycle - Mónica de Miranda presents at Carpe Diem Art and Research the result of a research process and artistic residences developed over the last two years in several places.
Come home to the place you have never left – which presents home as a territory delimited by the body – is shown at Carpe Diem Art and Research as a prologue to the tryptic Once Upon a Time. The other work exhibited, Home sweet sour home, uses drawing as a work of memory of all the places where the artist lived in, from her childhood to her actual home, an exercise disturbed by time and ambiguous feelings.
The project Once Upon a Time is curated by Gabriela Salgado, an independent London based curator, and counts with the collaboration of Tiago Mata Angelino for the video instal- lation as well as Simão Costa for the sound installation. The drawings also counted with the collaboration of the architectural collective Artéria.
Artist, producer and researcher, Mónica de Miranda lives and works between Lisbon and London. She graduated in Fine Arts from Camberwell College of Arts and completed a Master in Art and Education at the Institute of Education (London).
