Fora de campo: arquivo de cinema de Moçambique
Catarina Simão (Portugal)
Since the beginning of the 1960s, Mozambican cinema has been simultaneously used as witness and participant in the history of Independence of the country. A large part of Mozambique Film Archive’s collection contains images anchored to an official strategy: while staging a unifying ideology, they consolidate social and economical measures and report oppression and imperialist threats.
The installation Fora de campo (Off screen project): Mozambique Film Archive, that the artist Catarina Simão exhibits at Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa pursuits a practice based, non metaphorical, exploration on the political modulation of images. The project aims to highlight the work of those who come in to see an archive as an active, significant figure in its construction,
Guided visits on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm to 8pm. Appointments: catarina.simao@gmail.com
Fora de campo (off Screen Project): Mozambique Film Archive is being presented within the programme ‘O Barulhamento do Mundo’, organized by AFRICA.CONT/ the City of Lisbon and ARTAFRICA.
