Layered Worlds | Parceria CDAP e Rhode Island School of Design
About Layered Worlds – Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa
Layered Worlds develops an holistic approach to design process from the direct link between remote and in-situ observation, interpretation and intervention. The environment of the national monument, Palácio Pombal becomes a palimpsest formed by various interconnected worlds along the past 350 years. Context or existing structure is here as much defined by the vídeo documentation of the palace, drawings from the archives; or the world that is built up and adaptable to the students sensorial experiences; and ultimately the imagined world that each construct motivate.

Partnership between Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa (Lisbon, Portugal) and Department of Interior Architecture I Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, USA) - Design Studio, residence, installation and conference
6 RISD Interior Architecture Grad Students will be in residence at CDAP where they’ll present and construct their ongoing observations in the space of the Palácio Pombal. The residence takes place after an 8 week long-distance design process in a Studio lead by Eduardo Benamor Duarte partially focused on the analysis and interpretation of documents and communicational protocols with CDAP team members. The 6 day residency will be an opportunity for the class to prototype models within the Palacio Pombal structure as Micro Architectures or constructs in context, to map disrupture, promote flexibility or engage in new social experiences.
