Ana Rito

There is no world when there is no mirror

Ana Rito (Portugal)

Ana Rito (Portugal) reflects on the possibility of constructing a body, a poetical contemplation of the body. The exhibition There is no world when there is no mirror consists of a new set of works in video and film (8mm), where the artist explores a peculiar, lyrical dimension of the images through fragmented narratives, resulting in the suggestion of majestic “sculptural paintings”. The extreme emphasis given to the body as an interface between life and death, reality and fiction, directs the project with the intention of dramatizing what is both quotidian and extraordinary. Repetition, variation, false reflection, double and multiple transgressions, are all some important concepts in the understanding of a process that crosses the performance and the video-installation in a physical space that becomes the setting of this complex narrative goal.

Co-production: Festival Temps d’Image, Dupla Cena and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
