In Fernando Sánchez Castillo’s protest "memorabilia" live the ghosts of dictators—Salazar, Franco, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin— ghosts which refuse to disappear and continue to shake the world, kept alive by popular culture. The artist also offers a contemporary reading of Pierre Bourdieu’s books on the effects of media coverage of political demonstrations. Evoking the barricades of May 1968, the demonstrations in Tiananmen Square, the protests against fraud in the recent Iranian elections, Dialéctica da cortesia is a representation of a collective reality.
