Life Picking Leaves in the Forest (or The Museum of Man)
Tatiana Macedo (Portugal)
The work Tatiana Macedo presents at Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa is an art and re- search project that crosses the boundaries between art, cinema and visual anthropol- ogy in the form of an experimental film essay and several video installations made at different museums across the world. It began in 2007 as preliminary visual research, followed by a show in 2008 at the Museum of Contemporary Art – MOCA Shanghai and the Shanghai Art Museum. In 2011 it developed into an in-depth research project at Tate Britain and Tate Modern in London, involving extensive participant observation and field work through interviews, moving image and sound recordings. In April 2012 the artist made the first public presentation of this project in a discussion with curator Paul Goodwin, and a screening of a work-in-progress excerpt from the film, as part of the Late at Tate series. A feature film and several video installations are in progress, re-working the collected materials and experiences at both Tates. For Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa, Tatiana Macedo reworked some of these materials in order to push their physical qualities, experimenting with the space so as to create an installation that stands in close dialogue with this specific room.
