Joana Bastos (Portugal)
The artistic practice of Joana Bastos transgresses the boundaries between art and daily life, between aesthetics and sociology, between fiction and reality, between public and private. With a critical positioning relative to the relationships that exist between artistic practice, work and capital, her works question how art can be used as a tool for social potential and change. At Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa Joana Bastos presents a work inspired by Gustav Metzger (1926), an artist and political activist who developed the concepts of “Self-Destructive Art” and “Art Strike,” known as a direct attack on the capitalist system and the art industry.
