WHAT SHE DOES
Performance of Cristina Maldonado*
In the video performance titled What she Does, Cristina Maldonado* develops her work from the deterioration of the composition of the scenes of a thriller film. The artist goes from an abstract level of non-narrative actions (images, forms and rhythms, typical of Dance) to a narrative level (typical of Cinema) where the subjects and situations deteriorate gradually until they dissolve in abstract action.
Cristina Maldonado uses the technology in order to interact with the levels of fiction and reality, referring to the reinvention of the perception of the public, and at the same time elaborating a discourse about the construction of fear inside the bodily perception.
Cristina Maldonado is a Mexican scenic artist that works the relation between the body and the technology, exploring the idea of a custom made art, capable of enlarging the current experience of art.
Her technique consists of the use of technology as an extension of the bodily movement, intervening in the materials by physical presence and tactile manipulation.
Since 2003, she directs co-productions in East Europe, mostly in Czech Republic.
